Trip Overview

The Annapurna Circuit Trek begins in the warm, green lowlands of Besisahar. Terraced rice fields, humid air, and the roaring Marsyangdi River set the tone for the journey ahead. As the trail follows the river upstream, the climate gradually cools, and the scenery shifts to forests of rhododendron, oak, and maple. Trekkers pass through villages like Dharapani and Chame, experiencing a gradual change in culture and landscape, with crisp mountain air, waterfalls, and views of Annapurna II towering above.

Beyond Chame, the trek opens into the wide Manang Valley, a high-altitude Buddhist area marked by prayer flags, mani walls, and impressive mountain views. The dry, alpine terrain contrasts sharply with the lush lower valleys. After adjusting to the altitude in Manang, the trail climbs through Yak Kharka to Thorong High Camp, where the air is thin, and the surroundings are stark and quiet.

The highlight comes with an early morning crossing of Thorong La Pass, offering stunning panoramic views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu ranges. After descending from the pass, the landscape falls into the dry Kali Gandaki region, leading to the sacred site of Muktinath. The trail continues through windy valleys and traditional villages like Jomsom and Marpha, famous for apple orchards and Thakali culture. As the trek descends further, the climate grows warmer and greener again, finishing with a relaxing stop at the hot springs of Tatopani and concluding in Pokhara, a peaceful lakeside city below the Annapurna range.
