Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Lhasa (3650m)
Your journey begins with your arrival in Lhasa, the spiritual and cultural heart of Tibet. Upon arrival by flight or train, you will be warmly welcomed by your Tibetan guide with a traditional Hada, a ceremonial scarf symbolizing blessings and good fortune. You will then be transferred to your hotel in downtown Lhasa while enjoying scenic views of the majestic Yarlung Tsangpo River and the beautiful Lhasa River. After checking in, the rest of the day is free for rest and acclimatization to the high altitude. Overnight stay in Lhasa.
Day 2 Lhasa Tour – Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery (B, D)
Today is dedicated to exploring Tibetan monastic culture. After breakfast, visit Drepung Monastery, once home to more than 10,000 monks and one of the most important monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism. Here you will learn about the philosophy, traditions, and daily life of monks while exploring its historic halls and colleges. In the afternoon, continue to Sera Monastery, famous for its lively monk debate sessions where monks engage in philosophical discussions to deepen their understanding of Buddhist teachings. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner with your group while experiencing traditional Tibetan hospitality. Overnight stay in Lhasa.
Day 3 Lhasa Tour - Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street (B)
Today you will explore some of the most iconic landmarks of Tibet. Begin your day with a visit to the magnificent Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lamas and a symbol of Tibetan heritage. Inside the palace, you will see sacred stupas, ancient murals, and historical artifacts related to Tibetan Buddhism. Later, visit Jokhang Temple, an important pilgrimage site where devotees gather to pray before the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni. Outside the temple lies the lively Barkhor Street, where pilgrims perform religious circumambulation while visitors can explore traditional Tibetan markets, shops, and tea houses. Overnight stay in Lhasa.
Day 4 Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyantse 360 km (B, L)
Today begins an exciting overland journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Tibet as you travel from Lhasa to Shigatse. The drive takes you across the high mountain pass Gampala Pass offering stunning views of the turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks including Mount Nyenchen Khangsar. Along the journey, you will also witness the magnificent Korola Glacier and pass through beautiful Tibetan villages and scenic farmland. After stopping at Gyantse for photos, continue the drive to Shigatse where you will stay overnight.
Day 5 Shigatse to Lhasa (B, D)
After breakfast, explore Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the most important monasteries in Tibet and the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. The monastery is known for its grand architecture and the impressive giant statue of Maitreya Buddha. Later, visit the lively Samzhubze Old Market to experience the daily life and local culture of Tibetan residents. In the afternoon, begin your return journey to Lhasa along the beautiful Yarlung Tsangpo River, often referred to as the mother river of Tibet. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your group celebrating the unforgettable experiences of your Tibet adventure. Overnight stay in Lhasa.
Day 6 Depart from Lhasa (B)
After breakfast, your memorable Tibet journey comes to an end. Depending on your travel schedule, your guide will transfer you to the airport or railway station for your onward journey. As you depart from Lhasa, you will carry unforgettable memories of Tibet’s breathtaking landscapes, spiritual monasteries, and the rich traditions of Tibetan culture.
